i eat, drink, and occasionally think in nyc

y'know it was really pretty hot again here the other day. like, take a cold shower cuz you've got no AC hot. and now it is all cool again.

i now have seven keys to my apartment:

mailbox
(newly installed) gate
building front door
stairwell door
apartment front door
"hall" to my room door
door to my room

sadly, i will be giving them all up july 1st. two of my roommates have decided to move out, so jake and i are looking for a two person place. i'm hopeful about finding something a lil closer to manhattan along the L.

i spend my days mostly waking up too late, reading, eating the same things, looking for jobs and apartments on the internet. i often walk captain, partly so he wont piss the floor, and partly to get out and about, albeit briefly. also featured prominently in my internet searchings are (as always) audio electronics and food.

for some reason, living in new york i frequently have the desire to go out to eat. in atlanta, i rarely wanted to go out, even though i knew a few places where i really liked the food. i dunno if it is the unpleasant kitchen, wealth of unexplored restaurants, or some new york frame of mind.

a while back lamar and i split a pizza from angelo's with brewton and dave from upstairs. it was good. thin but not super-/paper-thin crusted style (still need to find that here somewhere) with fresh mozzarella and basil topping. those mild cheese and vegetable pizzas always look so good, but i am often disappointed afterwards. i end up missing meat the toppings, which i realized recently is mostly a craving for salt. also got a similar slice the other day at a place near the graham L stop here in williamsburg- carmine's. they had recently moved, and had lots of very good looking pizzas.

hopefully soon i'll be pairing some decent pizza with the sampler of brooklyn brand beer i've accumulated. i've found seven varieties so far. they do have a brewery in brooklyn, but most of it is brewed on contract by the FX Matt brewery in utica, which is better known for their saranac branded beers, available nationwide. i don't know if they'll be exporting it or not, but FX Matt has also started brewing rheingold brand beer, reviving a brand that died in the 70s. with its script red and white logo, it is looking likely to eclipse pbr as the cheap hipster beer of choice here in brooklyn. they've started a brewery in brooklyn as well. apparently brooklyn used to be full of breweries. there's actually a deserted one a stone's throw away from my apartment.

the actual brooklyn brewery runs exclusively on wind power generated in upstate new york. if only that somehow translated into less than $9 per six-pack at the local store.
